FAQ: Your Frequently Asked Questions About Foundation Repair
Below are some of the most frequently asked questions customers ask us. We are happy to answer your questions and hope that these answers could help you make smart decisions when you are considering foundation repair.
The soil underneath your foundation must have just the right amount of moisture. During the rainy season, make sure that your drainage system is working properly and that there are no clogs in your gutters. Too much water can soften the soil and cause your foundation to move and sustain damage. On the other hand, during the summer months, you have to make sure that the soil is properly hydrated. You can use soaker hoses. Just make sure that you place the hoses more than a foot away from the slab. About 15 minutes in the morning and in the afternoon should be enough to hydrate the soil.
It is easy to spot signs of foundation damage. On the interior, there can be cracks in the ‘sheetrock’. This means that there could be visible cracks around the window frames and doors. Windows and doors that are difficult to open and close are also a sign of foundation damage. If you see a gap where the brick walls meet, you probably have foundation damage. Cabinets that do not hang properly also indicate foundation damage.
Foundation repair always entails the risk of damage to utility lines such as gas, water, and electric lines. We go to great lengths to locate utility lines ahead of time to prevent possible damage. In the unlikely event that utility lines get damaged, Ox Foundations will not be responsible.
The cost of foundation repairs varies and will depend on the scope and size of the project and the age of the home being repaired. It’s common for foundation damage repair to range between a couple of thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars. There are many nuances and variations in foundation repair jobs and we can guarantee that we’ll give accurate and upfront estimates.
We have been in the industry of foundation repair for a long time and the methods that we use will cause minimal damage to your landscaping. In some cases, plants will need to be moved and we will do our utmost best to preserve your plants. However, we are not responsible for the survival of your plants. If you highly value your landscaping, we recommend that you work with a professional landscaper to remove the plants before we work on your foundation.
Ox Foundations offers true life of the structure warranty that is also transferable. We have all the necessary licenses and insurance to back up our repair work. To offer this kind of warranty in the state of Alabama, you have to have a builders license. Additionally, you must be endorsed by the Alabama Home Builders Association. Most of our competitors do not have this. We do not use sub-contractors and we do all the work in-house. We are not part of a franchise so you can be sure that your property will have the attention it deserves from local owners.
